A Grown-Up Bedroom for a Nearly Grown-Up Young Man

Rust, Bouclé, and a Room He's Genuinely Proud Of
The brief

When our client's oldest son turned seventeen, his childhood bedroom no longer fitted the young man he'd become, and he asked for somewhere that felt cosy, calm and properly grown-up. We paired a rust bouclé fabric with patterned textiles for a touch of playfulness, set against a soft ombré wallpaper that forms a serene backdrop to the whole room, with paint colour-matched across the skirting and ceiling for a seamless finish. Fluted wall panelling added lovely texture and proved a genuine pleasure for the carpenter to install, while his existing grey curtains were kept and simply refreshed with a rust trim rather than replaced outright. The result is a bedroom he's genuinely proud of, cosy and characterful, and thoughtful proof that good design really can change how a room, and the person living in it, feels day to day.
